Chairman Ronnie C. Chan and his family are generous and devoted philanthropists. Recently, Ronnie and Gerald Chan were honored with the Philanthropy Excellence Award presented by the Committee of 100 (C-100). Ronnie C. Chan attended the C-100 2016 Gala Dinner on April 16(Saturday) at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Los Angeles, to receive the award.

Chan thanked the Committee of 100 for this award. He pointed out that while all members of the Committee are admirable individuals, he wanted to single out in particular Herman Li, Chief Financial Officer of the C-100, for his long-standing contributions to the Committee.

In Chan's speech, he emphasized two points about his views on philanthropy. First, he said Chinese people are generous because they would give back to society in order to make it better. Second, he pointed out that we should give our children a great deal of love, and a good moral and academic education, rather than a lot of money. He also encouraged people to donate their wealth to society and allow their children to lead a simple and ordinary life.

Although Chan's speech was brief, he won much praise and applause from the audience.

The Committee of 100 was founded in 1990. The committee is a membership organization of Chinese Americans dedicated to the spirit of excellence and achievement. Ronnie C. Chan is a member of the  C-100 since 1998.
