"When you are still young and fit, you should experience the world!" Unlike her decorous image, Head of Human Resources Janet Poon loves to watch football, play the drums and travel backpacker-style. Janet likes connecting with people, which finds expression in her career in Human Resources.

    My favorite football team is…

"The Netherlands. I appreciated their 'total football' style since secondary school. I still remembered going to the stadium with my two girl schoolmates to support Ruud Gullit who came to Hong Kong with his team for a friendly match." Janet immediately laughed and said "Oh, this has actually disclosed my age."

I learned to play the drums because…

"I had been playing piano in church and started playing in a band with church friends and we needed a drummer. So I volunteered to learn and it has been four years already." Janet has even installed a band room at home. Apart from playing the drums, she is also a grade seven pianist and knows how to play guitar and clarinet.

    The meaning of travel…

"I love going to some remote places to explore the natural environment. Every trip allows me to experience the wonders of the world and how tiny we are. Problems in life become so insignificant. The different people met and culture experienced also help me understand more about how people live in other countries," Janet shared that somehow her fondness for travelling was affected by her dad. She said, "My dad was a disciplinary and PE teacher in a primary school. During the long school holidays, my parents would travel with my sister and me." Janet has been to around 50 countries already. "My husband and I love going to countries that other people seldom visit. Among them, the most memorable are the incredible glacier in Greenland, aurora borealis in the north and Bolivia's interminable mirror to the sky."

The closest experience to death was…

"Two years ago, my husband and I were touring around Iceland in a car." Janet was still clearly troubled by the incident as she said, "The weather in Iceland was like the four seasons of the year all packed into one day. With the steep and twisting roads, we could only rely on instructions from the GPS. However, the roads got steeper and even when we tried our best to accelerate, the jeep could not go on and eventually slid back. Luckily, the jeep stopped in the end but when we got out of the jeep, we found that one of the wheels was already hanging on the cliff! If the jeep had stopped a bit later, we would have already been tumbling to our deaths in the valley with the jeep."

The most successful thing I have ever done…

"It must be climbing up to the Everest Base Camp at an altitude of 5,340 meters!" About five years ago, Janet and her friends hiked for 10 to 12 hours each day for 12 days to reach the Everest Base Camp. She believed that she had already challenged her limits but will still try to climb another mountain if there is a chance.

    My favorite artist is...

"Maksim Mrvica, the pianist. He is handsome and talented; able to make a crossover between classical and electronic music. His skill is outstanding and his performances are so attractive and astonishing."

    My love journey…

"I met my husband in church and he is a pastor." About first love, since Janet's secondary school was an all girls' school, her first boyfriend was met in church when she was 17. However they separated after the public examinations.

    My motto is…

Her motto comes from the Bible, Philippians 4:13 "I can do all this through him who gives me strength." She believes there are always challenges in life but with faith in God, there will always be a way out.

    My favorite song…

"A popular love song by the band Beyond. The base solo part is so rich in emotion that it's intoxicating. The song is also a collective memory with my friends."
